Today education of wisdom is to help you understand how you can protect your photography's from online thieves that seek out the best of you. It happens from time to time where you want to show everyone your work and things are just started to pump in overdrive for you. You're making a name for yourself and people started to give the feedback and clients are rolling in. That is until one day someone or your fellow photographer point out something that is odd and so distasteful. Someone just taken your images and added them to their website, Facebook or 500px without any permission or consent.
What is the next step into cracking down on people that abuse images of others and making sure that this person doesn't do it again? How can you place the shame on this person without causing yourself to hire a lawyer or do you have to hired a lawyer? These 5 steps in how to prevent and manage photo theft is going to help you understand the basics. It's a serious problem in the photo industry ad we have people who still today steal shot of other people's work and take that image to use it for commercial purposes or to claim some type of fame. Even a company will take someone images without paying the photographer and that is sad but poor professionalism. They will even go as far to remove your watermarks by cloning them out. That is some serious acts of fraud and it needs to stop NOW.
Make sure you take tons of screen print the website, social media links and other social network sites of this person that have stolen your images. Make sure you get the information page as well. This is where you come in and you start to name and shame that person. The recommended steps is to post a blog, YouTube video, Facebook the infringement by sharing this information to others, you will help other photographers know the criminals of our industry. You have to be smart about this ladies and gentlemen, You want to make sure that if someone was to look into this person work or history the first thing they will see in the Google or Bing search is Fraud or photo thief. This will help in the process of having your photos remove from this person or parties websites and other social media links.
Watermark your all your images and make sure you have copies for full and low res. Make sure when you do watermark your images you take the time to watermark with a stamp. If a person manage to Photoshop your watermark from your images, it's a blatant infringement of your copyright. If you need to pursue legal resources, you can but it will cost you.
Upload sizes and settings is the most critical thing you can do to safeguard your images. Do not upload high res images online. Only Only upload low res images online. People will steal them and will just take your images without asking permission.
When you upload a low res images, that person can't print your images but can only use them online. This will stop him or her in their traps for seeking out clients. There is something you can do about that. When you export from Adobe Lightroom or Aperture Photoshop or whatever you are using the lession is to use the longest length of your image at 1000 pixels. It will only output something of a small images. The second step here is to do a DPI or PPI ( Pixel per Inch) of 72.
This will mean that if that person was going to try to print the image, it will look some horrible in pixelated.
